For engineers and operations teams managing rotating machinery, torque is one of the most critical — and historically most difficult — parameters to monitor continuously. Traditional approaches require shaft disassembly, custom machining, or dedicated on-site personnel. For live production equipment, that’s rarely practical.
Binsfeld Engineering and Integrated Test & Measurement (ITM) have partnered to change that. The Binsfeld TorqueTrak 50 (TT50) wireless torque transducer, now integrated with ITM’s iTestSystem Edge Solutions platform, delivers a fully automated shaft-to-cloud monitoring workflow that requires no shaft modification, no manual reporting, and no engineer on-site after initial setup.

How it works:
Deployment begins with professional strain gage installation on the rotating shaft — a straightforward process that does not require shaft disassembly or machining. Once the strain gages are in place, the TT50’s TX50 transmitter clamps directly onto the shaft using a modular chain link collar that accommodates a wide range of diameters. Two strain gage channels capture torque while an integrated gyro measures shaft speed, allowing power to be calculated onboard automatically. Data is then transmitted wirelessly via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
From there, ITM’s iTestSystem takes over. MultiDAQ polls the TT50 at up to 2,400 samples/sec and logs data automatically to industry-standard TDMS files. The Edge Analytics (A2) pipeline then wakes whenever a new file is detected, runs statistical analysis, extracts KPIs, and publishes results as JSON payloads to AWS IoT Core. Operations teams see live torque trends and automated alerts in a Grafana dashboard — from any browser, anywhere.
Key Benefits:
- Minimal installation footprint: Strain gage installation and collar mounting can be completed in hours — no shaft machining, no disassembly, no production shutdown
- Run unattended: Once commissioned, the system monitors and reports continuously without on-site personnel
- Measure what matters: 24-bit ADC resolution, up to 2,400 samples/sec, and integrated RPM measurement
- Scale as needed: Add vibration, temperature, and pressure channels alongside torque in the same iTestSystem environment
Three Deployment Options:
All options include strain gage installation as part of the commissioning process:
- Full Edge-to-Cloud System — Strain gage installation + TT50 hardware + iTestSystem + AWS + Grafana dashboards, turnkey
- Cloud Connect — Custom integration connecting TT50 data to your existing cloud platform
- Expanded Mixed-Signal System — Torque alongside vibration, temperature, pressure, and speed in a unified acquisition environment
