Uptime Magazine — The input gear in a gearbox had experienced repeated torsional fatigue failures. The failures became worse when the input shaft coupling was replaced with a different type coupling. Torsional vibration measurements with a strain gauge and a Holzer analysis identified a torsional natural frequency at the motor speed. The change in angular deflection was greatest near the input gear.
