DESIGN OPTIONS

Every roll motor design is a little different, but each requires the same thing — reliable, precise temperature data from the heated roll. At Binsfeld Engineering, we understand this. Our TempTrak® transmitters are designed to accommodate a wide variety of motor configurations and are built to exact specifications to fit each machine. We generate specific production documentation including Bill of Material and Assembly Instructions, referenced by distinct Binsfeld part number, for every transmitter system we sell. Our customers can be confident that the transmitters that they order today will be identical to those ordered in the future, and all will fit the installation perfectly. Each transmitter shipment includes a detailed 2-page User’s Guide [PDF] with clear installation instructions specific to the particular application as defined by the Binsfeld part number. MECHANICAL CONFIGURATIONS

STANDARD MOUNTING

The TempTrak® system is most commonly configured for standard mounting on the rear shaft and housing of the roll motor. A universal compression clamp design secures the rotor solidly to the motor shaft. The stationary housing mounts to the rear motor frame (over the rotor) and holds the stator circuit. As with all TempTrak® systems, the stationary electronics module (Controller Interface) is DIN-rail mounted in a nearby instrument cabinet.

THRU-SHAFT MOUNTING

Where required, the TempTrak® system can be configured to allow the motor shaft to extend through the rotor and stationary housing (up to 30 mm shaft diameter). This configuration is ideal for belt driven rolls or applications where the transmitter needs to mount between the roll and the motor.

INTERNAL STATOR MOUNTING

For installations where the TempTrak® stator is mounted inside the rear motor housing (e.g. Rieter, Plantex, ISGEV) the stationary housing (can) is replaced with special mounting hardware, machined to fit the application.

TAPERED SHAFT MOUNTING

When it is necessary to mount the rotating transmitter on a tapered shaft (e.g. Neumag 3-zone machines), a Binsfeld-supplied tapered shaft sleeve is fitted to the shaft first. The TempTrak® transmitter is then attached to the sleeve with the standard compression clamp design.

SENSOR INPUT AND DATA OUTPUT CONFIGURATIONS

SENSOR TYPES

The TempTrak® transmitters can be configured for 1 to 4 sensor inputs. Standard offerings include PT100, PT200, and PT2000. These are generally configured for 0-300° C. Other sensors and temperature ranges can be easily accommodated.

SENSOR WIRING

Standard sensor connection for the TempTrak® transmitter is a #4 screw terminal. Typical customer sensor termination is a #4 ring lug. Binsfeld provides socket head cap screws to secure the ring lug to the transmitter. On multi-channel transmitters, the RTD low terminals are connected together internally. Ring lugs secured with cap screws are very robust and not prone to intermittent connection failure caused by motor vibration. Alternative sensor connections are available (e.g. plug-in type sensors on Rieter machines).

OUTPUT TYPES

The TempTrak® system typically provides a discrete 4-20 mA current loop output for each channel (e.g. a two-channel RT302 has a 4-20 mA output for channel 1 and another 4-20 mA output for channel 2). Discrete voltage outputs can also be provided (0-10 VDC, 4-7 VDC, other). If desired, the TempTrak® system can output parallel signals from the same sensor channel (e.g. 4-20 mA and 4-7 VDC).
